How We Know Your Security Officer Is Actually There
Every company that hires guard services eventually asks the same quiet question: how do I know the officer is really walking the property? It’s a fair question. The old model gave you a paper log at the end of the shift, filled out by the same person it was supposed to hold accountable. If an officer skipped the back lot at 3 a.m., the log usually didn’t say so.
That’s the problem we solved with technology. International Guard Services runs every post on a guard management system that handles scheduling, timekeeping, patrols, checkpoints, and incident reporting on one platform — and produces a record of the shift that nobody can backfill from a break room chair.
GPS-Verified Clock-In, Not an Honor System
An IGS officer clocks in from our mobile app on their phone, and the clock-in is stamped with GPS location and time automatically. If someone is not standing on your property, the system knows. That single control eliminates the two oldest problems in this industry — buddy punching and late arrivals that quietly become short shifts. It also means our supervisors see a missed start in real time instead of hearing about it from you the next morning.
NFC Checkpoints Prove the Patrol Happened
We place NFC checkpoints at the spots that actually matter on your site: the back dock, the electrical room, the far corner of the lot, the stairwell nobody looks at. The officer taps each one with their phone as they make rounds, and every scan is timestamped and location-verified.
We use NFC rather than QR codes on purpose. A QR code can be photographed and scanned from a truck in the parking lot; an NFC tag has to be physically touched. The officer has to be standing at the checkpoint for it to register — which is the entire point of the exercise.
The result is proof of presence rather than a promise of it. You get an hour-by-hour record of where your officer was and when, and we get an alert when a checkpoint is missed, so a supervisor can correct it that night instead of discovering the gap in a monthly review. On large sites with dozens of checkpoints, this is the difference between a patrol program and a parking space.
You See What We See: Your Client Portal
Here’s where most guard companies stop short. We give every IGS client access to a client portal — your own login to the same operational record our managers work from.
You can see who is on site right now, review completed patrols and checkpoint scans, pull incident reports with photos, and check the hours billed against the hours worked. You do not have to call your account manager and wait for someone to compile a summary, and you are not taking our word for anything. The data is the data, and it’s yours whenever you want to look at it.
That transparency is uncomfortable for a lot of contractors. We think it’s the whole reason to invest in the technology in the first place.
Incident Reports Filed on the Spot
When something happens, the officer files the report from the app while standing in front of it, with photos attached and a timestamp that matches the event. No handwritten note transcribed three days later, no memory gaps.
Those reports route straight to IGS management and appear in your portal. If you ever need documentation for an insurance claim, a police report, or a liability question, it exists, it’s legible, and it was written in the moment. That record protects you as much as it protects us.
A Live View, and a Supervisor Who Acts on It
Our command dashboard shows management live officer positions, active shifts, open incidents, and geofence alerts across every site we cover. But software doesn’t deter anyone or respond to anything — people do. The monitoring exists so that a human supervisor can dispatch, correct, or escalate while it still matters.
That’s the part we’d ask you to weigh when you compare guard companies. Most will tell you they have an app. The questions worth asking are who is watching the dashboard at 2 a.m., how fast they can get someone moving, and whether you can log in and check for yourself. At IGS you also have 24/7 access to upper management, so a change to your post orders happens the same night, not next quarter.
What This Looks Like on Your Property
Say you run a distribution facility in northwest Houston with a yard, two dock doors, and a driver gate. We set NFC checkpoints at each, build a patrol route with the intervals your risk calls for, and your officer taps through them all shift. A checkpoint gets missed at 2:40 a.m.; the supervisor sees the flag, calls the officer, finds out he’s handling a driver at the gate, and the route resumes. In the morning you log into your portal to a clean record of the whole night — and if a trailer seal was broken, an incident report with photos was filed within minutes of discovery.
That’s accountability you can audit, not accountability you have to take on faith.
